LPC, Art Therapist
Hi, I’m Shannon! I am an Art Therapist who focuses on creative avenues to inspire my clients to reach their goals. I strive to create an authentic and safe space, both in my office and in the therapeutic relationship, for my clients to grow towards the positive changes they are capable of.
I received my Bachelors of Arts in Studio Art from McDaniel College and my Masters of Arts Degree in Art Therapy from Marywood University. I’m a registered and board-certified art therapist (ATR-BC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania.
I utilized a trauma-informed approach to treatment, and have completed training for Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). Previously, I have worked in outpatient and intensive mobile settings with children, teens, and adults who present with a variety of concerns and diagnoses.
Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is client-centered and strength-based, which means I will collaborate with clients to create their own personalized treatment plans. I believe clients know themselves best, and have the capacity for positive change. As a therapist, I see myself as a guide- who can provide support, reflection, and a unique perspective.
I utilize a wide variety of interventions and materials including play therapy in the sand tray and art-based interventions like drawing, collaging, sculpting or painting. I am open to my clients’ ideas and flexible in how I approach each session by offering choices to pick from based on how my clients are feeling that particular day. If a client comes to session with an idea, I let them take the lead. I look forward to hearing your creative ideas!
